Jam For A Cause: The First Saga
What a successful event! I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the people who took part in this history making function! Jam For A Cause: A Benefit Concert For Northern Mindanao raised more or less $4000 (PHP 170,000.00) which we will give to TSADA Edmonton (Association of Cagayanos) and to ABS - CBN Foundation to help the thousands of families affected by the typhoon Sendong last year. I know it’s not a lot of money, but hey, we made a difference. :)

One of my absolute favorites!

I found out about Walk Off the Earth just last week and ever since then I keep on listening to this song, over and over again. I love this cover so much because they really did a great job on making a stamp of their own into it. This will forever be one of my favorite covers and youtube bands… of all time (kumakanye west? chos lungs).

Sorry for the tumblrtuesday late post. It’s already Wednesday here when I got home from school and work. Yea, working and studying at the same time again. Wish me luck guys.

GPOY Thursday
One of the craziest nights of 2011. There were 5 of us who went out that night while others were sleeping soundly at the hotel. Us 5 decided to still go out and party although we were pretty much exhausted from the long drive, some other shit and touring the city for that whole day.
The Lamplighter’s Pub was awesome. That night Mostly Marley, a reggae band was playing. Great band, I must say. We had so much fun, got lots of booze intake then walked back to the hotel while doing crazy stuff. That night was definitely one of those nights we have got to remember.

The Year That Was

It’s funny how time flew by so fast last year. I met a lot of people, been to a lot of places, ate a lot of food and had so much drama in my system. I changed as a person, may it be for better or for worse. But I knew I grew up, at least one year ahead.

January: I started the year right. And with right I meant healthy. I was 157 lbs. in December, I couldn’t believe it so I decided to hit the gym. Together with my sister, I promised to live healthy so I can at least look pretty for my Pinas Trip in May.

(Nash and Nadje 2011)

February: I was kind of amazed at myself for being a good multi - tasker. I went to the gym everyday, never missed a class in school and even stayed late to study more (of course with my best friend Franz), went to work on Friday nights and weekends and perform on gigs. I was doing ten things simultaneously. I was so active, and believe me, I was happy.
Feb was also the month I finally talked to old friends and reconciled with them, and it felt good.

March: This was the month our band started recording for our first ever album.Headcakes: Pusong Gala was made out of hard work, intelligence and patience. We all worked so hard for it and I was so proud all originals were there. PLEASE GO CHECK OUT OUR SOUNDCLOUD TO LISTEN TO ALL ORIGINALS! CLICK HERE

April: Our band finally got a gig at another Filipino restaurant. It was a breakthrough because we wanted to expand our market and the opportunity knocked when our new band members suggested to perform somewhere in the West End (most of us live in the Southside). It was also kind of our major comeback to performing because we went on a long hiatus. Like any other bands we became so busy and tired, so we decided to take a break. We were lucky we still have supporters after all. Every gig was a success!

May: I saw the fruit of my labor. Those days and nights of intense workout paid off. After 157 lbs., I was 130. I was so happy that I smile every after workout, look at the mirror and tell myself “Tangina Nash, you’re even pretty when you sweat!” (the idea came from the Korean movie 500 Pounds Beauty; has anyone ever watched it?). Believe me, I was always teary eyed everytime I see myself in the mirror. It may be vanity, guys, I know, but spare me for that was the only time I actually saw myself pretty. Even my exes tell me, WOW.

May was the month I went back home in The Philippines  for a visit. It was in Mid -May, a good time to come back because of the nice weather and summer perks my country has to offer. I was so happy that now that I look at pictures I could tell that was the happiest I’d been eversince I left for Canada in 2008. I had so much fun in The Philippines, with friends and of course with my current boyfriend Edward. I was crying so badly on the last week of my stay because I didn’t want to leave but I know I had to. But I promised myself I’d come back the following year.
(My college roommates back in UP reunites after 3 years)

June: I was still in The Philippines on the first 2 weeks of the month. I spent a lot of time with my college friends and with Edward, of course. I went to Zambales, Nueva Ecija (my home province) and Baguio. I was supposed to go to Mindoro but things really got busy. A month of stay there was not enough. I spent most of my time in NCR(National Capital Region).
(UPians in Mogwai)

I came back to my family in Canada late June. I then realized how lucky we are that we’re here. It was true: an immigrant would never know the real difference of their home country from their new one not until they went back. I also saw a lot of changes in me: I started to appreciate the blessings I get even more.
(My sisters Natalja and Nadje)

July: This was the month the drama all started. I was depressed about not being in The Philippines. Although I tried to be the same, I know I wasn’t. I was working 3 jobs again to earn money to come back. I wasn’t happy, but I tried being so.
It was a good thing the boyfriend was being so supportive all through out. LDR is super hard, but we get by through all the means of communication there is. Life wasn’t as rocky as it seemed to be because of him.
August: I get by with family and friends. travelling and spending time with them was enjoying. I had to keep on although I was having a really tough time. I thought I wouldn’t get into school because of the pressure of University. I realized I was not that young as well, and so I switched programs so that I could graduate sooner. I travelled out of town a lot, ate a lot of food. I was too depressed I started to gain some weight. But nevertheless I had a fun time that month. I appreciated the beauty of Canada so well :)

SEPTEMBER: My birth month. ‘nuff said.
(Nash @ 23)

(Us putting our drinks up, 2011)

(Clubbing with friends, 2011)

I was going through something, but September is always different. For me it is not just celebrating my birthday but rejoicing the fact that after all the sticks and stones, another year has come and I am still here.
October: It’s always after September that things get busy. This time is different, though, mainly because it was our youngest sis’s 18th birthday. Alongside school, work and the band, this was what I looked forward in October.

(Family and friends at the debut 2011)

November: I caught a good break from my then handler: Parokya ni Edgar Live in Edmonton. I got to perform for them as one of the opening acts. :)
(Nash singing ‘Pangarap Lang Kita’ @ the PNE concert)

(I got to meet Buwi Meneses<3)

December: Everything was full of drama, it’s the winter time, who would’ve guessed everyone was kinda not feeling the happiness around? I was stressed with school, work, and the boyfriend. It’s painful. I needed a getaway. So I planned the Vancouver roadtrip alongside my not-so-old-but-also-new set of friends.
(Christmas was okay, btw)

2011 was a blessing and a roller coaster ride. I thank that it happened, it’s over, and I’m looking forward to this year, The Year of The Dragon. :)
Happy New Year, y’all!
